Making a Website

Well, making a website is something I have always wondered about. It turned out to be fairly simple, just very methodical and time consuming.

+ 100 Years

This was my least favorite of the three images I created. I was disappointed in the composition of this image, because I should have made myself larger to get a better effect with the gas mask over my face. I also should have tried for a background image of higher resolution.

+ 25 Years

I also like the way that this image turned out. I decided to remove the color from my entire body as I felt that it made the whole piece seem colder, more robotic and metallic- like. The entire image I think is interesting to look at, however if I were to improve this image I would try to improve the spot where my arm is attatched to the robotic hand, however like with the image of my head shot, I had trouble with settings that I had chosen with opacity and layers that I was unsure of how to fix.

+ 50 Years

This was my favorite of the three images that I created. I like the composition, as the wallpaper that I found to go behind the image of my face both contrasts and accents the colors in my hair and face. If I could change anything about this image, I would change the light area that is around my neck. I attempted to change the color of this area but had many problems changing it because of some mistakes that I had made with layers and opacity.

Photoshop Project #1

Well, my first photoshop project is definitely proving to be a challenge. I find that I understand the photoshop techniques as we follow along in class, but then as soon as I go to apply them for my first project I draw a blank. So, this project has forced me to sort of guess and check in Photoshop.
Right now I am working on my first project, and I am having a problem with changing the value of the skin on my neck. I took the face of an older woman that I copied from Photodisk, and pasted it on top of my own, however there was no neck portion of the pasted photo so it looks very unfinished right now. I am actually quite happy with the way that it looks anyways, because for this one I wanted to go with a simpler, more realistic look, like a photo. For my other two projects I want them to be a bit more out- there, more science fiction- like.

The Basics...

  • I grew up in Okotoks, Alberta, a small city just outside of Calgary. Although Okotoks may not seem like much to the naked eye, it was a great place to grow up.
  • I have a late birthday of December 30th, 1988, and spending my entire first semester as a 17 year old proved to be inconvenient at times as one can imagine.
  • Outside of school I play Women's Rugby with the University of Lethbridge Prairie Speed Goats (the REAL definition of a Pronghorn), I am a dreamer, a Starbucks rat and I can never seem to find a fine balance between brilliance and head-down-in-the-gutter confusion, instead I seem to swing between the two. Well, in my own mind anyways. Still, I am trying to fill the unused space between my two ears, and find my niche with every day of school I experience.
  • Coming into University I was quite unsure of myself in many areas of my life, including the actual process of applying for University so I ended up in BA General Major in the Social Sciences. Although this is not where I intend to finish, it was a good way to begin my schooling as I got to take a wide range of courses in my first semester. I am now trying to decide between going the New Media/ Graphic Design route or something more academic based, such as Management or Marketing.
  • I chose the University of Lethbridge to get away from my parents, to test myself in a new environment away from the norms we all take for granted in our hometown, and to play on the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns Rugby team.
  • Career aspirations? I'm still trying to figure out if I have any.
  • Just kidding, but at the same time it seems that I am being incessantly bombarded with an endless number of possibilities for my career path and it seems that with every door I close 5 more open. This exponential reality therefore makes it rather hard to narrow my line of sight. If I were to choose 3 things that I would like to experience or accomplish on a daily basis with my career, (whatever it may be), these 3 things would be: 1. Creative thought process 2. Relationships with other hard working people that I can trust and 3. Production of something that I can be proud of.
  • As of now I basically have no experience with Photoshop, Dreamweaver, or Premiere, however these programs (especially Photoshop) have always been ones that I have been in interested in working with, I have just never been given the opportunity. Having admitted my unfortunate lack of experience in these areas I am excited to learn about these programs, and about the world of New Media in this interesting lifetime.
  • I do not have a digital camera at this time, however I do have a slightly odd film camera which takes 4 rectangular pictures within a span of 2 seconds, and then pastes them together to show a movement or landscape or whatever the photographer decides, really. My digital camera was stolen, and I still hurt a little about it.
  • I listen mostly to indie, rap, techno and acoustic, I am pretty open minded about music although I don't care for most metal.
  • I don't really read magazines, but I sometimes read newspaper's and I LIVE for Three Lines Free in the Meliorist.
  • Other than that I don't even know where to start with explaining myself on a blog... I am a firm believer that the way you get to know a person is to see how they react in different situations and to different experiences. Small talk gets us no where, and it can be misleading. At the same time I need to step out of my shell and take some chances in order to learn what is what in the professional world. I hope some of this made sense!
