I grew up in Okotoks, Alberta, a small city just outside of Calgary. Although Okotoks may not seem like much to the naked eye, it was a great place to grow up.
I have a late birthday of December 30th, 1988, and spending my entire first semester as a 17 year old proved to be inconvenient at times as one can imagine.
Outside of school I play Women's Rugby with the University of Lethbridge Prairie Speed Goats (the REAL definition of a Pronghorn), I am a dreamer, a Starbucks rat and I can never seem to find a fine balance between brilliance and head-down-in-the-gutter confusion, instead I seem to swing between the two. Well, in my own mind anyways. Still, I am trying to fill the unused space between my two ears, and find my niche with every day of school I experience.
Coming into University I was quite unsure of myself in many areas of my life, including the actual process of applying for University so I ended up in BA General Major in the Social Sciences. Although this is not where I intend to finish, it was a good way to begin my schooling as I got to take a wide range of courses in my first semester. I am now trying to decide between going the New Media/ Graphic Design route or something more academic based, such as Management or Marketing.
I chose the University of Lethbridge to get away from my parents, to test myself in a new environment away from the norms we all take for granted in our hometown, and to play on the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns Rugby team.
Career aspirations? I'm still trying to figure out if I have any.
Just kidding, but at the same time it seems that I am being incessantly bombarded with an endless number of possibilities for my career path and it seems that with every door I close 5 more open. This exponential reality therefore makes it rather hard to narrow my line of sight. If I were to choose 3 things that I would like to experience or accomplish on a daily basis with my career, (whatever it may be), these 3 things would be: 1. Creative thought process 2. Relationships with other hard working people that I can trust and 3. Production of something that I can be proud of.
As of now I basically have no experience with Photoshop, Dreamweaver, or Premiere, however these programs (especially Photoshop) have always been ones that I have been in interested in working with, I have just never been given the opportunity. Having admitted my unfortunate lack of experience in these areas I am excited to learn about these programs, and about the world of New Media in this interesting lifetime.
I do not have a digital camera at this time, however I do have a slightly odd film camera which takes 4 rectangular pictures within a span of 2 seconds, and then pastes them together to show a movement or landscape or whatever the photographer decides, really. My digital camera was stolen, and I still hurt a little about it.
I listen mostly to indie, rap, techno and acoustic, I am pretty open minded about music although I don't care for most metal.
I don't really read magazines, but I sometimes read newspaper's and I LIVE for Three Lines Free in the Meliorist.
Other than that I don't even know where to start with explaining myself on a blog... I am a firm believer that the way you get to know a person is to see how they react in different situations and to different experiences. Small talk gets us no where, and it can be misleading. At the same time I need to step out of my shell and take some chances in order to learn what is what in the professional world. I hope some of this made sense!
